When Autodesk first launched Autodesk Assistant, it was little more than a natural language chatbot to help users get support for Autodesk products, including Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Now it’s evolving into what Autodesk describes as an ‘agentic AI partner’, capable of automating tasks, analysing data in real time, and improving decisions with predictive insights.
In Revit, it can calculate window-to-wall ratios or replace windows using natural language prompts (without the need to click through multiple menus and dialogue boxes), as well as automate documentation and tagging. In AutoCAD and Civil 3D, it can check compliance with standards and regulations, highlighting issues and suggesting fixes.
Built on Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and APIs, Assistant enables “agent-to-agent” communication, which in the future will allow data to flow across tools like Revit, Inventor, and Power BI. It can streamline collaboration, automate compliance, and even assist IT setup.
