Infrared.City is a Vienna-based software startup spun out from the Austrian Institute of Technology’s City Intelligence Lab. Led by PhD-qualified architects and design-tech specialists, the platform aims to democratise environmental design by transforming complex microclimate simulations into intuitive, real-time feedback for architects, urban planners, and municipal teams.
Infrared.City is a cloud-native, AI-driven simulation environment that plugs into AEC workflows through plugins for Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, and Grasshopper, as well as API access for custom integrations.
Users bring their models for early-stage massings into Infrared.City, then receive immediate analysis of solar radiation, sunlight exposure, wind comfort, and thermal comfort. The tool responds with performance maps and flags problem zones. Infrared.City uses machine learning models trained on large simulation datasets to approximate environmental performance accurately and efficiently. This removes the need for specialist simulation skills or extended compute time.
A conversational AI assistant further supports design refinements in natural language, and auto-generated reports translate technical data into user-friendly insights.
